May's Top CAGT Performances
May 31, 2010A May to remember
May began with a bang at Laytonsville where Mikey Barillo (age 13-15) shot one-under par 70 on day one and Ben Ryalls (boys 16-18) had the best two day total of 148. Mary Barbero narrowly held off Jessica Merrill's charge in the girls 13-15 group while Will Haller edged out Eric Hall for the boys 10-12 and Amber Liu won the girls 10-12.
Then came Fredericksburg's Cannon Ridge Course, with strong wins by Maclain Huge, and Paul Boshoff and by Korey Watts -- who won the "middle" age group created as a result of this event serving as a Callaway Junior World Golf Championship Qualifier.
Nathan Chuwait won the younger boys group. While Shelby Shote and Edric Wung joined Huge in qualifying for the Junior World Championships, as Clare Connolly picked up the points for winning the girls division among CAGT members.
After a week off, the junior tour continued with victories by Zach Bauchou, Will Bryant, Megan Board and AJ Stouffer at Ashley Plantation. At the same time, Ryan Miller, Alex Stewart and Will Haller were winning the boys divisions at Cross Creek. Girls winners at Cross Creek were Elena Gage and Danielle Griffin.
To "top it all off" was a three-day, 54-hole event at Bowling Green Country Club in Front Royal, Virginia. Amber Liu won the girls division and Jack Klein had a strong performance to top the younger boys, edging out both Isaiah Boucher and Phillip Andrukonis. Joe Simpson shot a dazzling 211 to win the Boys 16-18 and Tyler Satorius' 215 held off impressive performances by Matthew Ashley and Buzz Ganow in the boys 13-15 division.
