Notes on Stated Course Distances for CAGT Events  (14 days ago)
Distances are listed on the tournament detail page on the web site at www.cagt.org

Please look closely at distances mentioned.  In some instances you will see it stated that a particular age group will play one day from one set of tees and another day at a different set of tees.  While this may be how it actually "plays out"  the reason for advertising both tees is to give players a "range" of likely distances.

Based on weather conditions, scoring, pace-of-play, the set-up of the course prior to our actual play and similar factors, we do not guarantee an exact distance.  We permit the use of range finders (distance capabilities only) to assist players on course.  But, like pretty much every other junior event -- the precise distance is not guranteed.

However, again, the distances listed on the tournament detail page of each event present a reasonably good estimate of distance expectations -- with the understanding that (especially with a major qualifying event) we are likely to try to get in all 36 holes.  So, for example, if we are greeted by a heavy rain all weekend, we are likely to play lift clean and place -- but also we may shorten the course for pace-of-play and to actually complete the full event when possible.
International Junior Masters/Veritas Award Exemptions for CAGT Players  (25 days ago)

The International Junior Masters in East Aurora, New York and the Veritas Junior World Golf Festival of Los Angeles, CA have granted exemptions to the SERVPRO CAGT for spring qualifier events.  This brings the total number of exemptions to be at stake over CAGT's spring schedule to 19.

CAGT will be holding at least six events at which players will be competing for an invitation to top level, summer 2012 Interational Junior Golf Tournaments.

As with the past two seasons, CAGT will host two spring events at which up to six (6) players will qualify for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship.  In addition, CAGT will host an event where one player will qualify for the International Junior Masters.

Through arrangements with the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) and the Veritas Junior World Golf Festival, we will host three other qualifying events.  One event will be the Veritas qualifier, at which we will grant at least five (5) exemptions.  SERVPRO CAGT will also hold one event that will qualify four (4) of our players for CJGA's national matchplay championship -- and a separate qualifier that will gain three (3) CAGT Players an invitation to CJGA's Mizuno National Junior Golf Championship.  Both of these events north of the border will be held in Ontario Province.

These opportunities will provide CAGT players a great chance to play in top international events in the CAGT's summer "off season."  CAGT remains committed to bringing strong junior golf events to the young players in the National Capital Region -- AND, we want to continue to expand the opportunity for our players to qualify for resume-building international golf events during the summer months, where our players gain the ability to be noticed by college golf coaches.

CAGT to host two qualifiers for CJGA National Events  (26 days ago)
The SERVPRO Capital Area Golf Tour (CAGT) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting two qualifying events this spring, which will result in invitations to two major Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) National Championship Events.

CAGT's Cardinal Cup, April 21-22 at Bull Run Golf Course in Haymarket, Virginia will serve as a qualifier for the CJGA Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship (July 23-26).   The winner of the Cardinal Cup in each boys age division will be extended an invitation to play in the CJGA Ping Canadian Junior Match Play Championship, as will the winner and runner-up in the girls division.

In addition, CAGT's National Capital Junior Golf Classic, May 5-6 at the National Golf Club in Fort Washington, Maryland  will serve as a qualifier for the CJGA Mizuno National Golf Championship (August 6-10).   The winner of the  National Capital Junior Golf Classic in each boys age division will be extended an invitation to play in the prestigious CJGA Mizuno stroke-play championship event, as will the winner in the girls division.

“The CJGA is excited to partner with the Capital Area Golf Tour and provide additional qualifying opportunities for its members” said John Lawrence Managing Director of Tour Operations for the CJGA. “CAGT juniors will gain a valuable experience as both the PING and Mizuno championships are listed as Tier 1 events on the CJGA Canadian National Order of Merit” continued Lawrence.

"It is a great pleasure for us at CAGT to team up with CJGA in this way, to provide opportunities for CAGT's golfers to compete in top-quality international junior golf events over the summer months.  Just as we have partnered with San Diego's Callaway Junior World Championship for years now, this relationship with CJGA will provide our top competitors an invitation to even more quality summer events -- where they can test their skills against top international competition and make friendships that will last a life time," said CAGT's Founder, Tom Lizardo.

Lizardo continued, "As a golf coach, junior golf tour director and "golf dad" I have had the opportunity to be on hand for many junior golf events, including several events run by the CJGA.  I can tell you in all my experience, the CJGA events are always professionally-managed, they have large and very strong fields, and the hospitality they show to visitors is second-to-none.  In short, nobody does a better job than the folks at CJGA.

Moreover, these two events for which we have been granted these exemptions will draw some of the very best junior golfers, many of whom will go on to play at the collegiate level, and beyond, so it will be a real test of skill -- and a fabulous addition to the golf resumes of our top young CAGT golfers -- to have the opportunity to go and play in these invitation-only, national championship events."

All persons 16 years of age, or older, must have a passport to travel between the US and Canada.

Lexus is the Founding Partner of the CJGA and more information about the tour is available at www.cjga.com

The SERVPRO CAGT is online at www.cagt.org -- where players can register now for the qualifying events mentioned above, as well as other spring events.

Henning and Katz victorious at Terrapin Shootout  (4 months ago)

Scott Henning (Marshall High School) let consistency be the key to victory this weekend at the University of Maryand Golf Course.  Henning's nine-hole totals were 39, 40, 38, 39 (156) and were good enough for a one-stroke victory over Bowie High School's Alex Stewart (157).  Stewart openned the final round with a two-stroke lead but was not able to bring home the victory, coming up a stroke short after having difficulties on the 15th and 16th holes during the final round.  Sam Clark (160) of Hampstead, Maryland finished third in the high school aged boys division.

Playing in his first SERVPRO CAGT event, Evan Katz led wire-to-wire to win the younger boys age division.  Bouyed by an opening round of 76, Katz was able to hold on despite a late charge by Nick Mejia (160), who had 3 birdies on the final nine to equal Katz's first-day score of 76 on Sunday.  Mejia squeaked past Jackson Courtney (161) of Ellicott City to come in second by a single stroke.  Courtney finished third in the division.

The next event is at Glenn Dale Golf Course, in Glenn Dale, maryland -- next weekend.

Wind Contributes to Higher Scores at University of Maryland Course  (4 months ago)
Extreme wind gusts nearing 40 MPH had a significant impact on Saturday's play at the University of Maryland yet several players were still able to keep their rounds under 80.

In the one-day event, Will Haller won the 13-and-Under age group with a score of 79, without making a birdie or a one-putt.  Haller held off Jordan Bobb by three-strokes to claim the victory. In the older group, Evan Santa also posted 79 to get the win, edging out Garrett Tucker by a single stroke.  Jenny Park claimed the girls' title.

In the first day of the two-day event, also held at the University of Maryland Course, newcomer Evan Katz of Washington, DC had a steady performance, including two birdies, to shoot the low round of the day (76).  Jackson Courtney of Ellicott City is in striking distance, firing three birdies on his way to a round of 78 -- just two back of Katz.

In the older age group, Alex Stewart (Bowie High) went under-par on his final-nine (34), shooting a 77 to give him a two-stroke advantage over Scott Henning (Marshall) entering the final round of play.

The final round begins just prior to noon on Sunday, the 16th of October, 2011.
