STRONG FIELD TAKING SHAPE FOR NATIONAL CAPITAL JUNIOR MASTERS
Defending Champion Brandon Berry of Great Falls, Virginia heads a strong field for the National Capital Junior Masters at Laytonsville Golf Course on April 5 and 6, 2014. Berry won the event last year when it was held in Virginia and is looking to retain the championship for this, the event’s first year held in Maryland.
Berry is a former CAGT Player of the Year in the younger boys age division and has kept his game strong as he moves up in age divisions. Berry will, once again, compete in the oldest boys' age division. By winning in 2013 Berry maintained the tradition of having a player who was age 14 or younger become the overall low scorer in the event where all players age 13-and-up compete from the same tees in order to assure the event qualifies for Golfweek Ranking.
Berry will face stiff competition at the event from players such as Evan Katz, who qualified for Junior Worlds at last year’s National Capital Junior Masters in exciting fashion, by edging out CAGT’s two-time Defending Player of the Year and Tour Championship winner, Evan Santa in a playoff.
Several other strong players are registered to be in the field including Ashton Poole, who won a CAGT event at the Laytonsville Course in 2012 by edging fellow North Carolinian Jubal Early in a play-off. Also former Tour Championship semi-finalist Erik Dulik, James Madison High School stand-out Samuel Hecht and a pair of other top locals with CAGT experience (Tyler Mealey of Edgewater and Steven Segrist of Glenwood) are scheduled to tee it up.
"We are glad to once again have such a strong 2014 field for this event, which will also serve as a qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships," said Tom Lizardo of CAGT
Players can register for the event by clicking on “National Capital Junior Masters” in the “Upcoming Tournaments” page on www.CAGT.org
PHILIPPINES' CASTRO FIRST TO REGISTER FOR JUNIOR WORLD QUALIFIER IN BUFFALO AREA
Seeks to Qualify again in 2014
Luis Miguel Castro of the Philippines became the first player to register for the CAGT's Callaway Junior World Golf Championship Qualifier at Diamond Hawk Golf Course on May 3 and 4, 2014. Castro qualified for Junior Worlds at a CAGT event held at the University of Maryland Golf Course in 2012.
"We are glad to have such a fine young player, and fine young man, planning on coming to visit us again in 2014 for this event, which is our first Callaway Junior Workd Qualifier in Western New York," said Tom Lizardo of CAGT. "It has been a great Blessing for us to provide opportunities to some of the world's top junior players from the Capital Area as well as players from across-the-globe. It has been especially gratifying to see players come back year-after-year to our events, we love the opportunity to serve the kids and watch them build timeless memories and relationships."
CAGT's Callaway Junior World Qualifiers have hosted players from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and Canada as well as from several states across the nation. Players can register for events by clicking under the "Upcoming Tournaments" headline and following the instructions.

NEW AGE GROUPS FOR 2013-2014 SEASON: Beginning with the 2013-2014 season our age divisions will reflect the ages and cut-off dates established by the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships. This streamlining of divisions will help to end confusion for our marquee spring qualifier events and ensure the strongest possible competition for the AJGA recognition afforded to our sub-15 boys age group.
Generally, all girls play from the same tee box at CAGT (except the 11, 12 girls at Callaway Qualifiers), and boys in ALL groups (except 10-12) also usually play the same tees. For purposes of reporting to the NJGS all players of the same gender are reported together with all other players, of the same gender, who play the same tees. For all purposes EXCEPT Callaway Qualifiers, the 18-19 year old male participants are grouped with the 15-17 year olds.
